How to Plan a Stress-Free Indoor & Outdoor Baby Photo Session on Seattle’s Eastside
Seattle weather can be unpredictable, especially with little ones. That’s why I love offering both indoor studio portraits and outdoor garden photos during the same session, families get more variety while keeping the experience relaxed and stress-free.
At my Eastside Seattle studio, the outdoor garden is just steps away from the indoor space and carefully maintained year-round, making it easy to transition between locations without extra driving or packing up tired babies and toddlers.

Great for easing stranger anxiety
Around one year old, some babies become very shy around strangers, so starting outside and letting them play a little first often helps them warm up before moving indoors.
There’s also the occasional extreme case where a baby cries the entire time inside the studio. When that happens, we simply move outside to the yard, and many babies immediately feel more relaxed and happier in the open environment.

Pet Friendly
Another benefit of including outdoor photos is when families bring pets. The outdoor space gives everyone a lot more room to move around, which usually makes the experience much more relaxed and comfortable for both the baby and the pet. Dogs especially tend to do much better outside where they can explore a little and aren’t confined to a smaller studio space.

Rhododendron
During azalea season, around Mother’s Day in May, Washington’s state flower, the beautiful rhododendron, blooms for a few magical weeks.
Holiday Season
Even though Seattle winters are wet, toddlers over one year old can still have so much fun outdoors riding the Cozy Coupe car, and sometimes even catching the rare snowfall that’s hard to come by.
